  • Alan and Pat Davey (Bordeaux, France)

After fourteen happy years in pastoral ministry at Christ Church, Deeside (near Chester) Pat and Alan and their children, Gwilym and Catrin moved to Bordeaux, supported by their home church, to begin learning French in order to join the UFM Bordeaux team.  The road to Bordeaux began when Pat and Alan went on honeymoon to Fuengirola in Southern Spain. It was there that the spiritual needs of continental Europe stopped being simply a known fact and became a personal challenge. After that the road was long and winding, but they finally moved to Bordeaux in August 2005, sure of God’s guiding hand.

They are helping with a church plant in Bordeaux (Eglise Réformée Evangélique de la Gironde) and also with student evangelism and ministry with the goal of seeing a strong Bible church established and strong Bible Christians going all over the world with the gospel.

Eleanor’s story

“I couldn't believe that I’d gone to chapel all my life but I wasn't a Christian”

I was asked, ‘Do you believe in Jesus?’ and I said ‘Of course, I do!’ because I did – after all, I had been to church all my life. The problem was I believed in a Jesus that I didn't really know. But over time I accepted what the Bible was saying so I confessed to God that I was a sinner and came to know that there was no hope without him. And the older I get the more I realise how totally undeserving I am of all that God has done for me. That is what it’s all about — all I had was religion but it’s not about religion, it’s about really knowing God.

Food for Thought
Isn’t Clydach a great place to live? It’s good isn’t it to meet with friends and have opportunities for strengthening our ties with each other? Bethel wants to help us do just this. Food for Thought is an hour long monthly lunch where we share a meal together, and listen to a short talk allowing…
